Well, I don’t even know how many months have passed since the beginning of the pandemic anymore. There are still so many questions left unanswered. When will this end? Will we have to stay masked forever? Is the vaccine truly the only solution? Why are some people affected far less than others?
To be fair, we do have a few vague answers to some of these questions. But we’re not here to talk about that today, are we? No, you’ve clicked this article to see what I think about events and pandemics.
A Disaster for the Industry
I’ve traveled a lot during this pandemic. Not because I wasn’t cautious, but because I wanted to see first-hand what other regions of the world looked like during this insane time that we have all gone through. I’ve seen Eastern and Western Europe, a little bit of Asia, and a few parts of the US that I didn’t get to visit up until that point.
It amazes me how differently each region treats the subject. Eastern Europe, for example, has had overall very light restrictions when compared to their Western counterparts. But even so, pandemic event planning has been tough. Ukraine, for example, has had quite a few festivals going on in 2021. However, other countries weren’t quite as lucky.
And even with the events that did take place, the number of participants was relatively low compared to other years. Overall, the pandemic has been a disaster for the events industry.
Locals That Would Normally Host Events Have Had to Adapt
During my time traveling, I made friends with some of the locals in each area that I’ve visited. The thing is that they constantly kept telling me about how life used to be before the pandemic. I could see that this situation had greatly affected them on a mental and personal level.
They kept telling me about bars that would serve all sorts of shots and cocktails and how they now do alcoholic deliveries instead. So you’re no longer going out with friends to grab a drink. Now you’re sitting home alone and ordering a huge bottle of Jack all for yourself. Yikes!
Of course, the prices had to go up because they also needed to cover the delivery tax. People ended up paying more to drink alone so they could still support their favorite bars. That’s both impressive and scary at the same time.
What Should We Do Next?
I’m not a doctor or a health expert at all. This is just my personal opinion, and it shouldn’t be taken as a word of law. With that out of the way, here’s what I think.
People who have already gone through the disease and had an easy time going through it should be left alone. It’s clear that their immune system can handle it. We should prioritize vaccinations and medications towards those who are greatly affected by the virus. Those who we know are vulnerable should get free packages containing immune system-boosting supplements and medication.
And, as we have seen in Sweden, every country should just relax their restrictions. Unfortunately, restrictions only make things worse, especially when it comes to mental health. The rise in mental issues is no coincidence. It’s inescapably related to the pandemic restrictions imposed by governments.
Final Thoughts
I know some people might be offended about the above text, but again, I need to remind you that this is just my personal opinion. At this point, we could try doing things differently, as we have seen that what we have tried so far hasn’t worked out all that well, to begin with.
I always welcome criticism. Feel free to leave comments below with constructive feedback and detailed explanations about where I’m right or wrong and why. I would appreciate it if you could keep the discussion civil. Thanks a lot for understanding!
