For new as well as established companies, having a vision statement is crucial. A vision statement gives your employees something to rally behind, and should you choose to make your vision statement public, it lets the world know where your company is going.
A vision statement need not be long. Some Fortune 500 companies have vision statements that are no more than a few words. But your company’s vision statement should be well thought out and true to what your company stands for.
Below is a list of companies that are household names that are also on the Fortune 500 list which have published vision statements. The vision statements are quite diverse. Some vision statements are complex, while others are very simple. They often express a desire of some sort, such as a desire to be a “leader” (see Lockheed Martin’s vision statement) or “loved” (see Walgreens and Southwest Airlines’ vision statements) or “#1” (see Subway and Marriot’s vision statements). Other vision statements focus on the difference they will make in the lives of their customers (see Kellogg, Caterpillar, and Avon’s vision statements).
If you are thinking about or in the process of writing your company’s vision statement, the list of vision statements below is a great place to start.
