In this episode of Monday Morning Radio, host Dean Rotbart talks with Dr. Joanie Connell, President and CEO of Flexible Work Solutions, a consulting firm that specializes in leadership development, as well as in preparing youth for work and life. In this interview, she focuses on Millennials entering the work force and the challenges they are facing, and the challenges their employers are facing in managing them.
Dr. Connell explains that in today’s protected, structured and busy society, young workers have not been allowed to take risks, make mistakes, and learn from those mistakes. Consequently, many of them lack the resiliency necessary to be able to handle the work environment. She discusses how employers can help Millennials learn to be more creative, independent workers who communicate clearly.
Dr. Joanie Connell is an organizational consultant, leadership coach and author of the book Flying without a Helicopter: How to Prepare Young People for Work and Life. She is or has been a professor at the University of San Diego, Alliant International University and National University. Dr. Connell earned her Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley and a B.A. in Engineering from Harvard University.
